Well OK, we don’t have many impressions of Dhaka yet – we only landed a couple of hours ago!…….
We got our visas on arrival OK (for $51 each – we’d been told it was $50 each!), reclaimed our bags, and were met by a Bangladeshi employee of the SIM office here.
He took us over to a taxi and then escorted us to the YWCA where we’re staying – it’s basic, but we have a clean room with ensuite facilities – just fine!
The 45-minute drive from airport to YWCA was an assault on some of the senses – eyes (lots of new things to see, including hair-raisingly close calls with other users of the road) and ears (much hooting of horns – 99% of which is totally ignored!)
Anyway, please pray for the week ahead, and the audit of the SIM office here. This is the first audit I (Steve) have done alone – i.e. all the others I’ve been an assistant to a companion ‘lead’ auditor. I feel a little overwhelmed by all there is to do, but trust that Sherree and I will cope with it all, and be an encouragement to the finance staff here.
SIM Internal audits are more friendly in nature than external audits by accounting firms in the business world – so we’re looking forward to getting to know the staff here, the ministries they oversee, whilst checking compliance in accounting/admin procedures and suggesting improvements where appropriate.
Thank you for praying for this week – we start tomorrow (Sunday) and finish on Thursday – that’s the normal working week here in Bangladesh – Friday and Saturday are the weekend.
On Saturday 13th we head to Delhi (India) for 5 days to recoup, rest and sightsee a bit – and then on to Kathmandu, Nepal for our 2-week ”look-see” and meetings with potential future partners in ministry. Please pray for those 2 weeks, and for God’s clear guidance and direction in the meetings.
And please pray for safety for us and our belongings for the entire 3.5 weeks in very busy cities with hectic roads!
Thank you for journeying with us. God bless you,
Steve & Sherree
